Dissatisfaction Leads Us to the Real Questions by Irini Rockwell

I'd like to share a quotation from Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche that has deeply influenced my understanding of the spiritual path.

Looking for security and failing to find it is a glimpse of egolessness (that is, not identifying with a separate sense of self). Everyone begins the journey on the path [of working with oneself] by experiencing dissatisfaction. Something is missing somewhere, and we are frantically looking for it. But even though we run faster and faster, we do not discover anything at all. There is the constant sense that we are missing the point. So we start to ask questions.

Each time I return to these words, I'm reminded that dissatisfaction isn't a sign that something is wrong. It can be the very catalyst that awakens us to a deeper way of living and invites us to discover who we truly are.
